The Simpsons has been an American staple since 1989 and Duff Beer has been a Simpsons’ staple for all 22 season.  The beer is portrayed as a typical American light lager: drunk by the masses and in large quantities.  Homer and his drinking pals can usually be found sucking down a few belch inducing Duff beers at their local watering hole: Moe’s Tavern.

It turns out that this fictitious brand of beer as its roots in the real world.  Ex-Guns “N Roses bassist Duff McKagan recently revealed that he was the inspiration behind the brew.  Said McKagan:

“When Guns N’ Roses began to break into the public consciousness, I was known as a big drinker… In 1988, MTV aired a concert in which Axl introduced me — as usual — as Duff ‘The King of Beers’ McKagan. Soon after a production company working on a new animated series called me to ask if they could use the name ‘Duff’ for a brand of beer in the show.”

Now if we could only pinpoint who inspired Duff Beer’s charismatic mascot: Duffman.  He seems like someone we’d like to party with.
