It appears the folks at Heineken have noticed all the recent “innovation” in beer consumption vessels and decided to do something about it: they invented a new can. It would also appear that the newest gimmick is to have no gimmicks at all. Here at Hapa’s Brewing we get the sense that this is a case of the Keg Can calling the wide-mouth black. We haven’t forgotten about Heineken’s past gimmicks: the Draught Keg, the glow-in-the-dark STR Bottle, and the aforementioned Keg Can.
While a gimmick-free can is a step in the right direction, we can’t help but wonder why Heineken doesn’t focus its attention on being a better beer. Advertising the can in which their beer is sold debases their product and puts them on the same playing field as the large breweries they are trying to supplant. We would like to remind everyone to drink beer for what’s inside the can, not because of the can.
