Yesterday we discussed the forces at work in the battle for America’s beer market: large breweries taking market share through acquisition and small breweries being squeezed out of shelves. Today in the battle of David vs. Goliath, David made a powerful ally: the U.S. Government. The Department of Justice has indicated their intention to block the merger of AB-InBev and Modelo calling it “a bad deal for American consumers.”
The decision keeps Ab-InBev from cornering additional market share and promotes fair competition. This is good news for craft beer enthusiasts, so tonight pour yourself a pint and cheers to the DOJ.
