We got a new toy!

Earlier in the week a special delivery arrived at Hapa’s Brewing Company: a brand new 15 barrel fermenter!  After some dicey maneuvering with a forklift we managed to unload the tank and set it in its rightful place on the brew pad.  This tank is already hooked up and ready for beer!

Amish Rifle Red Ale Dropping Today!

Come down to Hapa’s Brewing Co. for a Happy Hour beer today and try our newest creation!  Amish rifle Red Ale clocks in at 5.8% ABV and 20 IBUs with a mahogany red hue.  A solid amount of caramel and Caramunich malt contribute plenty of unfermentables and residual sweetness.  A sip finishes with a slight roasty-ness thanks to a touch of roasted barley.

Beer and Yoga!

Progress has been steady at Hapa’s Brewing Company and we are nearing the long awaiting opening (exact date is TBD).  In preparation for the Big Day, we thought it would be a good idea to center ourselves with some yoga.  We’ve teamed up with Downward Drinking Dog to host a beer and yoga event at the brewery on January 21st.  Tickets and information can be found HERE.

P.S. It can get a little bit chilly in the brewery so please dress accordingly.

Beer Has Been Brewed

Last week was a huge week for Hapa’s Brewing!  One that we will remember forever as the week we brewed our first beer.  There were a lot of moving parts and work to be done but everything came together and we brewed a blonde ale on Wednesday and an IPA on Thursday.  Fermentation has been strong which means we’ll have beer soon!

Stay tuned for more updates!  The Grand Opening is right around the corner!

We Have a Brewery!

Remember in the last post when I said we had “a HUGE week” coming up?  That was no joke!  Our brewing equipment arrived!  We hired a rigging company to unload everything and rough place it on the tank pad.  The team from Criveller Group spent the next two days placing, leveling, and hooking everything up.  We ran a water test and all went well.

Next steps: finish up electrical, water and steam piping, and our glycol system.  Then brew some beer!!!

One More for the Trophy Case

Like many brewers the Hapa’s Brewing team got their start home brewing in the kitchen.  What started with a 12 quart pot, an Igloo Cooler mash tun, and plastic 5 gallon bucket grew to a tricked out stainless steel half-barrel system.  The brews got better and better the awards soon followed.

Sadly, this year marks the last amateur home brew competition for the Hapa’s Brewing team.  However, we’re happy to report that we went out with a bang!  The beer that will henceforth be known as Barbie’s Blond Ale took home first place at the World Cup of Beer!

Hapa’s Brewing Company Signs Lease

It’s official! Hapa’s Brewing Company has a home (Kinda. More on that later)! Earlier this week we signed the lease for our space in San Jose. After a long negotiation, the signing itself was somewhat uneventful – lots of initialing and one signature is all it took.

Now why do we “kinda” have a home?  Our lease is contingent on the city approving a conditional use permit.  This permit will allow us to build our taproom so all you craft beer drinkers can have a pint in our building.  Stay tuned for more updates!
